Tip #1

These are the parts of the plane you should remember:

  • Horizontal axis (also called x-axis)
  • Vertical axis (also called y-axis)
  • The point of Origin
  • Quadrants

So, where are these parts located in the plane? Watch the video below to find out.

This video introduces you to the parts of the coordinate plane. It is important for you to remember these parts.

00:00:08.120
Before I begin, it good to know that, this plane was developed by this French mathematician a long time ago.

00:00:18.200
Now, let's take a look. This number line is the x-axis. Also known as horizontal axis. The number line over here is the y-axis. Also known as vertical axis. Okay, now look at the center.

00:00:43.090
This point is called the point of origin. If you look carefully, the x-axis and y-axis divide the plane into 4 parts.

00:00:52.160
Each part is called a quadrant. Also, these parts are labeled, Quadrant 1, Quadrant 2, Quadrant 3 and Quadrant 4 respectively.

00:01:05.120
Okay, that is all for now. We will go through on how to use this plane in the next lesson.
